These excursions by traditional, flatbottomed boat provide a unique opportunity to explore the Dordogne valley and its magnificent gorges by retracing the lives of local "gabariers" - intrepid sailors who carried wood downstream to Bordeaux for use in the wine and barrel-making industries.- From Spontour (reservoir created by the Le Chastang dam) and upstream from Argentat (Le Sablier reservoir): daily at 3pm and 5pm in July and August; all year round at the first two sites and the Pont du Chambon (reservoir created by the Le Chastang dam) for groups (advance booking required).- From Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne: daily in June and September at 3pm; daily in July and August at 10.30am (groups), 3pm,4.30pm and 6pm.
