Canal des Moines

This extraordinary 12C work of art has been carved out of the rock and constructed with impressive corbelling. Built by the monks from the abbey, it runs for a distance of 1.5km along the side of a rock to supply the monastery with water. Free entrance. Guided tours for individuals, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thurdays and Fridays at 2.30am and 4.30pm in July-August. Departure at the Aubazine Tourist Office. All year round for groups by prior arrangement with the tourist office. Duration: 1hr 30min. Entrance fee: 4€/individuals and groups. Free admission for children under 10. Warning: Access is forbidden to dogs, bicycles, motorcycles and strollers. Climbing is also forbidden.
