100,000 years of history in the Brive region. This art and history museum exhibits collections relating to a wide range of subjects, including geology, palaeontology, archaeology, history, famous people, art, decorative arts, folk traditions and natural history (17 rooms). It is the only museum in France to house a collection of 17C Mortlake tapestries. Open 1 April to 31 October, daily, except Tuesday and 1 May, 10am-6.30pm. Open 2 November to 31 March, daily, except Tuesday, 1 January and 25 December, 1.30-6pm. Video-audioguides available for individual visitors in French and English depending on the tour chosen. Groups welcome by prior arrangement. Entrance fee. No charge for the temporary exhibitions (three to four held every year), open daily, except Tuesday, 10am-noon and 1.30-6pm or 6.30pm. No charge for the permanent collections on the first Sunday of the month.
