The Dordogne gorges are of major ecological interest for their flora and fauna. With a wide choice of water sports available here, the gorges can also be visited in a traditional flat-bottomed "gabare" boat, by far the best way of exploring the wild, mysterious river that was depicted in the popular French television series "La Rivière Espérance".
