France's most beautiful villages
This label is awarded to villages which have preserved their traditional authenticity
and which in many cases have discovered a new lease of life: Collonges-la-Rouge, on
the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela; Curemonte, a village with three castles
and three churches; Ségur-le-Château, on the banks of the Auvézère; Turenne,
clinging to a rocky spur; and Saint-Robert, with its Romanesque bell tower.
Visiting the sights
A land of castles
Step back in time and learn all about history on a visit to one of the Corrèze's many famous castles:
Pompadour, where a stud farm was created in the 18th century; Sédières, converted during the Renaissance
into a comfortable residence; Ventadour, which, despite its many battles with the elements and invaders,
has managed to preserve the magic of its setting; and Les Tours de Merle, where you'll find the vestiges
of seven castles built from the 11th to 14th centuries.
Our gardens and arboretums, home to wonderful roses, extraordinary sequoias,
stunning tulip trees and even ginkgo biloba, are delightful places to spend a
relaxing day enjoying the superb palette of colours on display in these natural environments.
Not forgetting our dams, prodigious feats of engineering built to control the forces
of water, and bridges built in architectural styles that have long been forgotten yet
which carry with them plenty of nostalgia.
Everywhere you go you'll discover our wonderful heritage. Take time to explore it !
